Dear Friends and Family,

Terry Everett is a mechanic at the Lehighton garage for PennDOT and has worked part-time at Tractor Supply for 5 years. He also farms with his son Alden. On Friday, October 19, Terry suffered serious injury when his sleeve got caught in a corn picker, pulling his right hand into the rollers. Neighbors, family, and first responders arrived quickly, but Terry had to be medevaced to Philly for immediate surgery. While surgeons managed to save his hand, he lost his index finger and had another reconstructed. After 1 week the family has 4 ambulance rides, a 3-hour medevac flight, 2 surgeries, 2 ER trauma bills, and a week of inpatient bills to pay. There are more to come since Terry is still facing serious complications from the injury and additional surgeries to close his wounds and fight a dangerous infection.

Once his condition is stabilized it will take even more time to rehabilitate his hand to the point that he can work again. Terry is the sole breadwinner, as his wife Kelly is disabled and unable to drive due to a medical condition, so the family is also facing a devastating loss of income...which appears *not* to be covered by his work benefits.

Please help a hardworking family I love to recover from this devastating blow that fell only two weeks after losing their dear Memmy (Marion Everett) to a long battle with cancer. *Anything* you can share here or in person will raise not only their prospects but their spirits.

Peace and blessings,
Keturah

update from Terry's wife Kelly a few days ago:

"Terry’s best bet to keep his hand is hyperbaric oxygen therapy. It’s very specialized and they only take on the most critical cases. The protocol is 5 days a week for 4 weeks, so they only accept 4 patients at a time. We are very lucky they have an opening. We need to travel back and forth to [Allentown] and the treatment takes about 2 1/2 hours.

"I know we have been reaching out to our community, friends, and family a lot since Terry’s accident, and we are beyond grateful to everyone for everything. We know how busy everyone gets and hate to keep asking--but if anyone has a day here or there to volunteer a ride, it would be extremely helpful in our situation as I can’t drive due to my epilepsy. Please give us a call at home. If you need the number, just reply. Thanks and God bless!"

update from Kelly:
“We just found out Terry will need 2 more major operations for sure and his surgeon says he’s not out of the woods yet in terms of being clear of infection. This is gonna be a long agonizing recovery process for Terry.”

Thanks so much to those who have donated and been praying for Terry's recovery. The good news is that he is coming home today! He is still in pain, but the danger has passed for now.

If you haven't yet had the chance to participate in the grace of giving to your neighbors in need, why not contribute the cost of your favorite party food or drink to welcome him home?
