Dear Friends and Family,

Terry Everett is a mechanic at the Lehighton garage for PennDOT and has worked part-time at Tractor Supply for 5 years. He also farms with his son Alden. On Friday, October 19, Terry suffered serious injury when his sleeve got caught in a corn picker, pulling his right hand into the rollers. Neighbors, family, and first responders arrived quickly, but Terry had to be medevaced to Philly for immediate surgery. While surgeons managed to save his hand, he lost his index finger and had another reconstructed. After 1 week the family has 4 ambulance rides, a 3-hour medevac flight, 2 surgeries, 2 ER trauma bills, and a week of inpatient bills to pay. There are more to come since Terry is still facing serious complications from the injury and additional surgeries to close his wounds and fight a dangerous infection.

Once his condition is stabilized it will take even more time to rehabilitate his hand to the point that he can work again. Terry is the sole breadwinner, as his wife Kelly is disabled and unable to drive due to a medical condition, so the family is also facing a devastating loss of income...which appears *not* to be covered by his work benefits.

Please help a hardworking family I love to recover from this devastating blow that fell only two weeks after losing their dear Memmy (Marion Everett) to a long battle with cancer. *Anything* you can share here or in person will raise not only their prospects but their spirits.

Peace and blessings,
Keturah

The latest on Alden Everett’s dad. The good news is that the bone healed up the way it should; now one more (hopefully last?) surgery to help him regain movement/control. Not sure why his employer PennDot is so pushy about him getting back to work or else when the surgeon responsible for fixing up his hand says not yet, and not for 8-10 weeks after the next surgery!! (Can any PA lawyers help with that??)

“Terry is scheduled for yet another surgery to have tendons released and his knuckles freed up. He is very concerned because his protection from the Family Medical Leave Act runs out the middle of April and his health insurance the beginning of May. Penn Dot keeps pushing for him to come back to work but the hand surgeon is not comfortable with it.
His surgery date is March 13 and our driver will be out of town (Alden) If anyone is available that day to drive Terry and I to Havertown and back after the surgery, we would be very appreciative. As always, and you all for everything and continued prayers are always needed.”

Terry's second skin graft attempt in December has been a success! No more infection, no more hyperbaric oxygen treatments, and fewer bandages. :-) He is going to physical therapy at a nearby facility 2 days/week now and improving all the time. The hand doctor is waiting to see if the last bone that needs fixing in his middle finger will heal itself during the pt. The hope is that in 1-2 months Terry will be good to return to work.

update from Kelly (12/12):
"Well, SURPRISE for Terry at the doctors office in Philly. He has to have his hand worked on first thing tomorrow in Philly. All this running here, going there, sleepless nights. My fibromyalgia is screaming and epilepsy is getting harder to keep in the background. I know I always ask because I believe it always helps, I am grateful for any and all prayers."

Tomorrow's surgery will be skin graft attempt #2. Hoping the infection is gone for good and this graft works!
