Bacon, Egg & Cheese Academy Project

I am a NYC school teacher in the South Bronx. I work in a Title I school where I serve children below the poverty line and most kids receive free breakfast and lunch. I work in District 9 which serves a very high need population. The last 2 weeks in school before the Christmas break, Bronx Early College Academy will embark on a new unit called Intensives. Every single teacher has created something new for various students to engage that is not only different, but fun and exciting. My colleague and I want our students to experience a unique dining experience outside the comforts of their immediate neighborhood (Bronx-Bodegas and fast food chains). So we have created this class (Bacon, Egg and Cheese Academy) to create a forum for them to express their opinions and interests through the medium of food. We plan on visiting several restaurants to expand on students' awareness of various food options outside of their comfort zone and create blogs about it. With your generosity, students will be able to afford the opportunities that they would normally not have and receive important world experiences to help them grow as individuals. 

It will change our students' lives because of the opportunites that you are giving them to be able to engage in something unique, fun, and inspiring. I want my students to know that each of them is part of something larger they contribute to, not only in the classroom, but to their families, in their jobs when they are older, and in the families they are part of in the future.
