Our Story
City of Light
B Team Buffalo is a non-profit organization led by young professionals dedicated to promoting a lasting sense of civic pride in the Greater Buffalo area. In an effort to continue to improve our community by creating and executing high impact volunteer projects, B Team Buffalo is currently seeking sponsorships for our signature holiday event, City of Light.
The goal of the initiative is to decorate a neighborhood in the city so that it shines for the holidays, reviving the 1901 nickname for Buffalo - "City of Light." Volunteers will spend time decorating homes in our adopted neighborhood and host a free winter carnival for the families in the community. B Team will also provide the neighborhood children with games, prizes, crafts. We will also gather the residents and volunteers together for a celebration and tree-lighting ceremony!
So far this year, B Team Buffalo has:
· Packed bags of non-perishable food for Compass House
· Helped augment other organizations’ volunteer base for other causes and events such as UNYTS' Bucket List Bash, Buffalo National Wingfest, and West Side International Soccer Charity Tournament.
What We Need & What You Get
We are looking for $1,500 in funding to ensure we can purchase enough lights, bows, garland, and the other items that it takes to decorate each home. Each dollar raised will go directly into decorating houses for those who may not be able to afford it, while we try to illuminate as many streets as possible in the community.
For those that donate at least $20, we have something tangible for you; a City of Light ornament. The ornament will be available for pick-up at City of Light; if you're not able to make it, we'll ship it out to you. For others who donate, you will know that your support is making a difference in helping to make this event possible.
The Impact
Our community partnership model of volunteering and engagement is unlike other events and experiences you may have heard of in Buffalo.
2018 will be the 11th Annual City of Light (COL). In years prior, we held COL at the Matt Urban Hope Center Neighborhood, the University Heights Neighborhood, the 10th Street Boys & Girls Club, the Old First Ward Community Center, the Seneca Babcock Community Center, and the Ontario Street United Methodist Church.
If you do not have money you can contribute, there are a number of other ways you can help:
· Spread the word about City of Light and our funding goals to your friends and family.
· Volunteer! We need people to help decorate houses, run our carnival, and craft room.
