Homeless For A Night

Since December 2004, Helping Hands has been reaching out to our homeless neighbors in Rockland, providing emergency shelter and case services and meeting basic needs. Now, we are taking our most ambitious step ever in our mission to end homelessness in the county. We have been awarded a Rapid Rehousing grant by HUD, which will enable us to help homeless men and women find and keep their own apartments while getting the professional support they need to become self-reliant.

Helping Hands must match the HUD grant of $152,000 with $38,000 of our own, so we are devoting our Spring Appeal to raising these funds. Youth groups all over the county will be organizing "Homeless For a Night" events to help us meet this goal. Last year, young people raised almost $10,000 with their sleep-outs. This year we hope to raise $15,000.
