Azri Mortimer’s Fighting heart:

Do Me a favour, close your eyes, just for a second and Imagine you’re a 8-year-old girl faced with the fact of needing a heart transplant.

Imagine you’re her parents or her older brother, just imagine it for a second.

Did you consider that somewhat of a nightmare? 8 year old Azri Mortimer and her parents Anna and Khylie and big brother Zaran, are faced with that fight right now.

After breaking her arm last year Azri needed surgery, it was then, that a nurse picked up an on irregular heart rhythm. Fast forward some days, some tests and a Happy, Healthy, Active, Bright 8 year old girl is diagnosed with Restrictive Cardiomyopathy.

You’re probably now asking yourself, what is Restrictive Cardiomyopathy? Let me tell you, it’s a rare heart condition Azri being one of four children in Australia to have this condition. It’s a heart condition where its principal abnormality is diastolic dysfunction – specifically restricted ventricular filling. In brief, her heart muscles are stiff and poorly compliant not allowing the heart to relax and fill the ventricular chambers. This results in a “back up” of blood in the atria. ‘top heart chambers’.

Anna and Khylie have been told Azri will need a heart transplant within 12 months, before her deteriorating heart causes damage to other organs.

There’s an African Proverb “It takes a village to raise a child”, and although the Mortimer Brown family feel as though they have the whole communities support lets get together dig deep and together we can aid this families financial burden, if not aid the whole burden to make as much as an impression as Azri has made on there lives and many around her.

Lets do it for Azri.
