Azrael's Medical Fund

On March 7, 2017 our family received devastating news: our oldest son had a golfball sized brain tumor, caused by a fast-growing cancer called anaplastic medulablastoma.  This is a highly aggressive brain and spinal cancer that roots itself in the brain and spreads quickly. His tumor grew over the course of eight weeks, and we were blessed to get the dianosis before the cancer could spread.  At one point in time, this cancer was 100% fatal. Thanks to medical advances in last 15 years, we have high hopes that he will be cured.

Azrael had surgery to remove the tumor on March 10th. He spent the first few nights in the ICU. He was diagnosed with left side ataxia as well as cerebellar mutism. With therapy, his words emerged and his left side became more usable. Today, he still has noticable left side function impairment. He is classified as a traumatic head injury patient from the tumor and surgery to remove his tumor. He is experiencing some cognitive difficulties, but remains a happy go lucky boy that loves to play. 

It is a long road and we expect to be in active treatment for at least a year. The cancer is still in his system, and the therapies we are completing will give us the best chance for a cure. Current MRI scans show no tumor regrowth, so the radiation and chemo are doing their job of stopping the growth cycle. 

We are still determining all of our needs.  However, during this time I will be taking off a lot of time from work to attend all of the medical appointments and hospitalizations expected for his treatment. Thank you for supportin our family as we battle cancer.
