Aza's Big Battle

For those who don't know me I'm Nicole (Aaron's sister) and this is his story. On the 16th of August 2017, my brother was admitted to Wyong hospital with suspected pneumonia, on the morning of the 17th of August my parents would receive a phone call that would change all of our lives forever. Aaron had contacted streptococcus A in his blood, which in laymans terms means it attacks all of his vital organs. We were told to 'prepare for the worst' and to say 'goodbye' at each visit because it may well have been our last. Aaron, then went on to battle the biggest battle of his 42years. He was on life support and was in a medical induced coma for 11 long days. His life was spared 3 times in these 11 days. He was brought out of his coma on day 12 and he became very aware of his surroundings but was still very ill. During these 12 days it was also found that Aaron had another infection (bacteria) that was in the valves of his heart. To say he hit the 'mother load' of infections would be an understatement. For 4 weeks Aaron has battled slowly along and has just been moved from ICU into the renial ward where he will stay for the time being. Life as we know it and life for Aaron are now going to be vastly different from the life we all once knew. Because of Aaron's illness and how hard it attacked his body, he is also in all likelihood going to lose a limb at this stage. Which is completely and utterly devastating to us and most importantly Aaron.I (Nicole) have been asked by many relatives, friends and perfect strangers what they can do for him. So I've decided to set this page up. If you can donate, that would be amazing, as you can understand he is now up for a lifetime of medical expenses. We will be holding a fundraising dinner at a later date, so that Aaron can attend. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you all for your love and support at this extremely difficult time.

Hey Everyone,
I just thought I’d update you all on Aaron and his recovery. We are 7mths in and in the last 4 weeks he has been moved from Sydney (Ryde) back to Gosford for 3 days and then to Wyong where he has been continuing his rehabilitation. The long days he has endured have had a silver lining on them with his ability to have weekend day release and to finally, last weekend gone, have an overnight pass granted as well. He has throughly enjoyed this and enjoyed the odd beer or 2 as well. He is looking to be moved to Rankin Park rehabilitation, in Newcastle, but when that happens is anybody’s guess.
For those of you who don’t know, we are holding a benefit night for him at Morisset Country Club on the 28th of April and we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Aaron will require a lot of day to day things to be modified and this is why we are holding the benefit night, that and for him to have a beer with a lot of his supporters, so if you can contribute in any way we would really appreciate it. We are accepting donations of all shapes and sizes so please make contact with me (Nicole Weekes) if you so desire.
Thanks again for your tireless support, it’s this support that has gotten Aaron over the line some days.
Cheers

Hey Guys,
Just an update about Aza. He is still currently in the Royal North Shore hospital. To say the last few months have been challenging for him would be an understatement. But he has come through with determination and is truly inspiring. He has just had a skin graft done on his left knee with the right knee to be done on the 27th of December. We are desperately hoping to have him home for Christmas. All going well he should be then transferred to Wyong hospital for rehabilitation in the New Year. I speak on behalf of Aza when I say, he is deeply humbled and oh so very thankful for the kind wishes and donations he has received thus far. And we (his family) ask that you hug your loved ones a little tighter and remember life can change in a heartbeat. We also ask the you do something that you wouldn’t normally do, be BRAVE for someone or even yourself, Aza has to be brave every day now. So step out of your comfort zone and try something different. You may not change the world but you can change someone’s world.
Love, peace and light for your Christmas and may 2018 be your year xxxx We know it will be Aza’s

He is deeply humbled by all of the love and support he has received. We are aiming for February for his fundraiser. That way he will be there! Once again thank you from the bottom of our hearts cx
