Life can change in the blink of an eye.

Sydney, an active and vibrant 22 year old, fractured her C3 and C4 vertebrae after diving into the river to retrieve a raft.  As a result, she is unable to move her arms and legs.

It is unknown how much mobility she will regain. We do know that Sydney is strong, motivated and fighting hard

Her medical and living needs are tremendous and far beyond what insurance will cover. Just the wheelchair she needs ranges between $45,000 and $75,000. Her mother's home will need to be adapted with special accommodations for Sydney. A vehicle will need to be purchased to transport her to and from appointments.

Costs are mounting quickly.

Sydney is loving, caring and determine to defy the odds. Please help Sydney. You support is enormously appreciated.

This is an update from Sydney's mom, Barb:

Six months ago, July 13, 2018, the story of Sydney’s life was dramatically altered. She has chosen to write the chapters that follow with the ink of courage and determination. Courage to defeat the physical challenges each day brings, and determination to lessen the impact of these challenges on living her life to the fullest possible extent.

We are overwhelmed by the generous support received in the form of monetary donations, prayers, and expressions of love and concern. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for being part of Sydney’s recovery. Your generosity is a blessing for which we are forever grateful.

Sydney is continuing to make strides in her recovery, and she so appreciates all the messages of love and support that you have sent her way and posted here.

We're sharing with you a story about Sydney that ran in the Tribune Review.

Luis Fabregas is the editor of the Tribune Review's Valley News Dispatch and the Pittsburgh digital editions of the paper, and he wrote a beautiful article about Sydney, her fighting spirit and the love she is surrounded by. Andrew Russel did the photography and put together an emotionally touching video to accompany the article. The article ran on Saturday, September 1, 2018, and you can view it here through this link: https://tinyurl.com/yb8sgqwz
