Rebuilding Home After Haiti's Earthquake

Mariette Lamy is a 73 year old Haitian immigrant with limited formal education who purchased a home in her native land in Haiti for $44, 000 in cash, by cleaning doctors' offices in Brooklyn, New York. For ten years she saved her wages from a Christmas club saving's account. On January 12, 2010, while visiting family in Haiti, she endured a major earthquake that struck the island. In that moment, Marriette Lamy escaped death, by running into her cousin's backyard. Mariette and her cousin survived, however in the South part of Haiti in Graisser, her dream home which she never slept once in, was destroyed in seconds by the earthquake. Rising from the ashes of despair, she found the courage and strength to re-build her home from her babysitting's income. Mariette plans to leave the United States, and retire her aging bones, by reuniting with her beloved Haiti. Despite her thin income, she relies on love, faith, and hope.
The video shadows Mariette Lamy's life in the United States and her trips to Haiti after the earthquake. There are ongoing struggles to reconstruct with no aid that supposedly is earmarked to help the people from the natural disaster.  Mariette's journey is a victim's story of catastrophic events that are entangled in the politics of complicit government, corporate involvement, and the ever-expanding role of gentrification. Please help support her to live in her own home and achieve the Haitian's Dream.
