My name is Christine Doeker and I am writing this on behalf of my friend Mike Burns. I have known Mike for about 25 years where we met at Lakota High School in West Chester, Ohio. We have remained friends ever since. Mike married his longtime friend Jena just over 15 years ago. Together they have 3 beautiful children together. Nathan who is 12, Emma is 10 and Aubrey is 7. Mike works for Luxottica in Mason, Ohio and has traveled the world helping people have the chance to see thru OneSight.
Mike's world changed on April 29, 2015. He was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomypathy heart disease which would not allow him to do any strenuous exercise or activity in the future. He also found out at the same time that he has 3 Glioblastoma brain tumors. WOW what a shocker! On May 12th Craniotomy brain surgery was performed to remove what they could from 1 of the 3 tumors. On June 1st Mike started radiation 5 days a week and chemotherapy 7 days a week until July 16th. On August 19th he had an MRI and found that his tumors were growing at an aggressive rate. He was now having dizziness, vision issues, headaches, head pressure and memory loss on a daily basis. On August 21st he started a bi weekly dosage of Avasin by injection as an attempt to stop blood vessel growth near the brain which could temporarily delay tumor growth.
Mike is still working his full time job with Luxottica and living everyday to the fullest. He keeps busy with his wife Jena and their 3 active children. He definately has something worth fighting for and he isn't giving up. He has been given the nickname IronMan because of his strength and courage. All Mike has ever asked for are thoughts and prayers for his family and for each of us to enjoy our family and friends to the fullest. For those of you that want to do more here is your opportunity.
