Toys for Children's Therapy

Can I tell you about 15,000 handmade toys we built in 2015? These toys are used for emotional and physical therapy in hospitals in Alabama, the Southeast and now…South America! Let’s not exaggerate…our annual average over the last decade has only been about 11,000. Or might I share about Bunk Beds and Dining Tables for the Sheriff’s Boys Ranch; or bird houses hand-built onsite at the Ranch with each boy being paired with a member of our guild to build and hang a martin style bird house? Maybe it will be the custom oak kitchen and bath cabinets we build and install once a year in the Habitat for Humanity Holiday Home in the Birmingham, Alabama area that catches your attention. By the way, we do all this with ZERO cost to these organizations. This and dozens of other community outreach programs every week, every month and every year…for over 30 years.

We are the Alabama Woodworkers Guild (www.awwg.info) and we need your help. As most 501(c)(3) organizations, our funding is always top of mind. Being a good steward of the small membership fees and limited donations we receive is always a top priority. Maybe you, your family or your organization could help us with just a small donation? Every little bit helps.

Our members already support the cost of the Woodworking Education Center, supplies, tools, utilities, landscaping (we do this ourselves) and I cannot even begin to tell you how many bandsaw blades, or the amount of sandpaper and wood we go through in building children’s toys. But the need is beginning to outstrip our funding ability. The cost of supplies continue to rise and some of our equipment is in dire need of repair or replacement. Simply put, we need your financial help. Please consider this request in the vein it is offered, in good stewardship of all things provided.
