Awakening The Inner Artist

Donation protected

Did you ever wake up and suddenly – finally – realize that you were living someone else’s life? Maybe for you it didn’t happen all in one morning. Maybe, like for me, it was the conclusion of a very long journey.

Everyone has art in them, aching to get out. It’s not always easy. Even the folks who love us most will remind us that we’ve never been much of an artist in the past. That we could never make a living at this. That it’s not a real job.

We question our value. Our ability. “What was I thinking? Maybe they were right.” So we hide. We keep our talent buried. We live by their standards.

It doesn’t have to be that way. Art is important. Art is necessary. And Art is fun!

I’m raising money to fund my Awaken The Artist program that supports artists in their desire to fully express their gifts. I’ve been teaching this curriculum for several years with great results and it’s time to bring these proven methods to the public.

What’s the Money For?

1) I will set up a safe, inspiring space where coaching clients can come and create their Awaken The Artist projects. Clients will also have access to a Reiki healing room.

2) I will acquire and maintain the necessary supplies and equipment for my coaching clients.

3) I will hire technical expertise as needed to update the website, create graphics for my Awaken The Artist products, edit my first book, companion workbook and coloring books and advise me on proper branding and marketing strategies.

4) I will invest in advertising and other marketing strategies for my Awaken The Artist programs and art.

My Story

Honestly, I don’t know why it took me so long. I’d been a successful, creative entrepreneur since 1984 and, still, it wasn’t until 2011 that I finally had the realization and the nerve to call myself ARTIST.

Turns out, my dream of being an artist had been buried for decades. After uncovering a deep, childhood wound and completing an initial healing phase (one of many to come!), a creative spark led me to begin painting. It felt good to paint. It was a healthy outlet, an expression for emotions that had been bottled up for so long.

It would still take another 20 years before I actually embraced the idea that I was truly an artist. In 2011 I intuitively guided myself through a series of creative processes which dissolved my blocks and led to a continuing evolution of my artistic expression.

I learned a few things:
1) Creativity expands as we go deeper.
2) Art gives us the permission and courage to take risk.
3) Art heals.

Owning this gift after years of denial and doubt about my abilities was the beginning of my journey to discovering myself. The one thing I desired most as a child was now ecstatically mine. More importantly, I had stumbled upon something that could serve other hidden artists by helping them transform their creative expression.

That's me!

I felt a deep call to teach this.
I created a curriculum, coached several people privately and taught my first group classroom series.

As I gained momentum in this powerful offering, Life had another plan. My mother was diagnosed with dementia and, as her primary caregiver, I spent the next two years researching her condition and watching her fall deeper into the claws of this fickle illness. I recently placed her into assisted living where she is receiving the medical and personal support she needs.

And now… back to Wendy.
Funny thing is that while this felt like a roadblock to my coaching practice, it was actually a valuable detour, lined with amazing lessons that I’m now able to integrate deeper into my courses. Talk about taking the scenic route!

The emotional experience with my mom provided inspiration for my art creation and the development of my Awaken The Artist video course over the past several months. My work has evolved and I am excited to bring it to the world.

This Awaken The Artist mission I developed is already helping artists advance their art and creativity and I want to help more artists at various levels. My program is powerful as it helps artists see where their creative blocks are, why they're stuck and then helps them get moving forward.

Why I Do This
Art transforms our world. It takes the creator and the admirer into an inner journey that is primal and real. Art guides us into a trance of possibilities where imagination, dreams and solutions live.

We are all here to be creative. My mom had an operatic voice. My dad had early aspirations of writing and drawing. Both parents were discouraged and their inner artists remained buried.

The doubts and thoughts of “I'm not creative” or “I'm not an artist” can be transformed into beautiful, creative self-expression. The inner discovery of our artistic gifts nurtures the spirit and provides a deeper sense of inner peace and wonder, so beneficial for these challenging times we live in.

I know there are many more people like me who have been discouraged like I was. Every time I ignored the whispers of my heart, I lost a little piece of myself. This time, I'm following my heart and I'm reaching for my dream and will help others do the same.

And then what?
Long term plans include building a healing center and hosting art retreats to support the creative spirit of my clients! I also plan to educate families caring for aging parents and sharing the healing power of art throughout the process.

I am deeply grateful for any and all support. Sharing this campaign with your friends is support too. Thank you in advance.
