STOP FORCED MERGERS!
School districts in towns across the State of Vermont are under forced merger order by the Agency of Education acting under the authority of Act 46.
35 school districts and a handful of individuals have filed a legal appeal of the Forced Merger Plan.
The Alliance of Vermont School Board Members and members of the general public throughout Vermont are currently working with legislators to address the constitutional questions raised in the appeal.
First and foremost, we are asking for a bill that places a moratorium on forced mergers, as school boards are facing immediate difficulties in crafting budgets in time for Town Meeting.
AVSBM urgently needs your help to work successfully with the Legislature. We have contracted with a team of experienced lobbyists (Leonine Public Affairs) to help our legislators understand the issues and develop fixes to Act 46.
We aim to raise $10,000 for this purpose, separate from our on-going litigation fundraising effort.
All donations from this campaign are dedicated to the lobbying effort, and are accepted on behalf of AVSBM by Daniel C. Redondo, AVSBM Treasurer.
Fund expenditures are approved by the AVSBM Board of Directors.
