Avoiding Homelessness A New Start
I am a Veteran currently undergoing InPatient Treatment for alcoholism and PTSD. I will very shortly be going to a 3 month program to ensure my recovery.
After the completion of my 3 month program, although the VA will assist me in finding housing, they do not offer financial assistance.
I am financially responsible for being able to produce the funds to get a place to live and to get to work. I will literally be starting with just the clothes on my back.
That's where I am hoping gofundme can help. Because I my application for Service Connected Disability money is still pending--and probably will be for some time--I have no resources to save money at the termination of my program. Because of the amount of money I earned last year, I do not qualify for any financial assistance.
I only have a dad and an aunt, both on fixed income, who live in another state. I lost most of my friends and relationships because of my disease and my PTSD. I'm hoping for a chance to make things right and start over. As of today, December 4th, I already have 206 days sobriety!
This is my first intensive treatment program in 35 years of suffering from alcoholism and PTSD. I am committed to this long term change. But, if I don't raise the money I need, I will end up like many other Veterans who come through the doors and end up in a shelter, or worse, on the streets.
Here is how I arrived at the $3,350
I will need the first and last month's rent, and security deposit: $2,200.
$250 covers the fees withdrawn from dobations.
The other $900 would allow me to have money for buses, my weekly State Mandated class, and some initial supplies from now until the end of February. I will be at a work program that will enable me to afford minor weekly expenses bateginning at the end of December.
I feel pretty low even going on here, but I need help so I can try to get a new start in life. I have three bags of belongings...everything else is gone.
