We are South Coast Innovator Labs, a 100% volunteer 501c3, non-profit makerspace in Taunton MA.
We are raising this money as a scholarship fund for those with limited income to participate in the maker community we are building. Many people do not have space and cannot afford the equipment to express themselves creatively or even explore an idea that could become a marketable product. We would like to have scholarships available to people (retired, students, unemployed, or whatever) so that they could share and be part of this community.
The money from this campaign will be put in a scholoarship fund for which we can award up to 21 full year memberships to those of limited income or means.
There are people who have expressed an interest in joining SCIL now but lack the means to do so. There are so many talented people who are retired or unemployed or just recently graduated school who have a lot to offer the world, and we would like to help them do that.
These scholarships mean that we can help people learn new skills, explore their creative side, etc. Members are able to use the equipment and space for all kinds of creative and / or educational projects. Maker areas currently include and electronics lab, computer lab, woodworking lab, living systems lab, and a fiber arts room. We hope to have a metal workshop soon and are open to whatever our members are interested in (within reason of course). Group activities have been held around information and education on open source farming, computer programing, fiber arts project nights, mushrooms, permaculture, 3D printing, making concrete garden forms and Kimchi.
We are extremely grateful for the help that this campaign will allow us to give to these talented and deserving people.
