Meet Shanna & Ava!
Shanna is known for her joyful spirit, hard work ethic, devotion to her daughter Ava, and love for Jesus. Ava is a sweet and bright 6 year old girl, in the first grade. They have both already overcome many hardships, and are now facing another.
Since birth, Ava has struggled with a variety of chronic health conditions and complications that have affected her breathing, ears, nose, and throat . This has lead to 5 previous surgies, and she is now facing TWO additional surgeries in the upcoming weeks.
Surgery ONE: Ava was diagnosed with unilateral hearing loss due to a perforated ear drum. As Ava started kindergarten she began wearing a hearing aide. She now needs to have a procedure to have this corrected. This will be on one, possibly both, ears. It is scheduled on April 17, 2017 at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Surgery TWO: As a chronic asthmatic, Ava also suffers from chronic sinusitis, esophageal reflux, and immune deficiencies. As a result, Ava has used a nebulizer with a variety of aerosol medications, inhalers, and additional medications. These have caused significant damage to her teeth and mouth which also require a long procedure.
On April 28th, 2017, Ava will have this corrected under general anesthesia at Akron Children’s Hospital. This procedure could normally be done at a dentist’s office, however with Ava’s allergies and respiratory complications, her doctors felt the OR was the safest option, although it is not fully covered by insurance.
Please consider helping this amazing family of 2 pay for the $9,000 of out-of-pocket medical bills. Shanna is such a great mother, makes many sacrifices, is generous, works hard to make ends meet, and give Ava a great childhood! She also has a heart of gold! Last summer, she took in 2 little boys that needed a home for a few months- all on her own!
