Autism Blue

Hello! My name is Abby. I am 15 years old and I live in Folsom, California. I created this page in hopes of raising money and awareness for autism to help people like my 13 year old brother, Blake. You either have found this page through word of mouth, social media, traditional media, or one of my upcoming fingernail painting events in April (April is National Autism Awareness Month).

My brother Blake was diagnosed with autism when he was about 3 years old. He is the sweetest little brother you’ll ever meet but not the only one in the world with autism. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 68 children in the US has an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Autism isn’t cheap. To pay for autism services, US citizens annually pay $236-262 billion (Buescher et al., 2014). To educate a student with autism, it costs more than $8,600 extra per year (average cost of education is about $12,000) (NCES, 2014) (Lavelle et al., 2014).
I created this page because together we can make a difference. I want to raise money for autism treatment and research, but I need all of your help. If you decide to donate, you will be helping lots of kids with this disorder get the treatment they deserve. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to organizations that help improve the lives of those with autism. The organizations-and others like them-include:

-Specialisterne (works to enable jobs for high functioning people with autism and similar challenges, through social entrepreneurship, innovative employment models and a national change in mindset).

-UC Davis MIND Institute (Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders) (a collaborative international research center, committed to the awareness, understanding, prevention, care and cures of neurodevelopmental disorders).

-Autism Speaks (the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization).

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read this page. It really means a lot to my brother, anyone with autism, and me. I hope you donate money to help this cause. Have a wonderful day!

Sincerely,
    Abby

( On a side note, some people aren't comfortable with these crowd funding sites.  We assure you with Abby's campaign that 100% of the proceeds will go directly to organizations that support autism.  If you would prefer to donate directly to these organization please do so.  If you choose that route please do two things.  First, donate it "in honor of Abby", so the organization will know the reason for the donation.  Also, please post a comment below, so that Abby can gauge the success of her campaign.  Finally, we will post pictures of the electronic funds transfers directly to the organization.
Sincerely,
Mom and Dad)
