Autism Sensory Garden

Our son Theo is 4.5 years old. He was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at the age of 2.5 years. Theo’s autism means that he faces many difficulties on a day to day basis. Theo is currently non-verbal and is developmentally at the age of 12 months old. Theo has a number of mobility difficulties and is effected by sensory processing difficulties. My husband is in the military and we live in military accommodation. As a result of Theo’s needs, we were recently moved to a larger property, to help us manage Theo’s difficulties better. We have saved and funded our own sensory room for Theo, in our new house, which has made such a difference for Theo on a daily basis. It has also made a huge difference to us as a family, as the sensory room allows Theo to have his own safe space, which means that we are now able to have guests into our house, which without this room, Theo really struggled with. Unfortunately, our new garden is currently unusable and unsafe for Theo in its current state. Our dream is to turn the garden into a safe and tranquil sensory space for Theo, allowing him to be outside, as often as he needs, knowing that he is safe whilst we are out there. Sadly we do not have the money to tackle the garden and make it into a useable space for Theo. We would like to be able to raise funds, which would allow us to get people in to help us transform the garden for Theo.
