This cute little boy was diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum, but over the years he has failed to get the services he needed to live a happy and productive life. He is an adult now and has minimal support. His disability keeps him from being able to live an independent and safe life. I am trying to get him financial support right now to get him into a program he needs to achieve personal well being so that he is appreciated and feels safe while likely earning money from the art he creates.
He has been accepted for a specialized program. This young man has been an amazing artist since he was a young child. Art allows him to express himself, focus and relax. Very few programs offer art classes and support. This one does. The program administrators believe in this young man. The problem is the cost, $2600 a month. The program believes so much in the artistic talents of this young man, however, that they are making an exception and offering special art classes to this young man to persuade the State and others that this young man deserves help.
Aside from many past teachers and social workers, three professionals, a Neuropsychologist, advocate and attorney--believe in this young man's artistic talents, while also recognizing his complex disability and personal and social needs. They are in agreement that he fits the criteria for these program services and others offered by the State. They have spent many hours over 6 months providing pro Bono or very reduced rate services to advocate for and now submit a proposal to State agencies seeking such support for this young man, including creative arts support. This professional team is writing reports that include newer scientific conclusions about this young man's disorder and assessing his needs in light of current research. Having met and worked with this young man they also believe he deserves better. A chance to live with hope to survive and thrive.
The costs for the supported services and creative program for 6 months while the professional team is seeking permanent state support will be $15,600 while legal reports and fair hearing preparation by the team will cost $14,400. We need you to help this young man who feels abandoned and hopeless at the same time that everyone is commenting on his artistic talents. He needs people to support his art, his creative impulse and his basic drive to live. The need is urgent.
