Ads-Up: Aussie Diaspora Steps Up

Donation protected
Since May 2018, the Ads-Up Refugee Network has been connecting Aussies in the US and around the world with hundreds of former Manus and Nauru detainees who are now building new lives for themselves in America after more than 6 years of offshore detention at the hands of the Australian government.

The vast majority of these refugees arrive in America with little preparation and barely more than the clothes on their backs. The US offers 90 days of basic support, after which they are on their own.

We aim to fill the gap and give these refugees the fair go they deserve – but we can't do it without your support.

More than 700 refugees have arrived in the US under the Turnbull-Obama deal, with roughly 200 more expected to arrive in 2020, including young families and individuals with disabilities exacerbated by years in detention.

Please donate now to help us welcome new arrivals and to provide ongoing job-seeker, family reunification and emergency support to the refugees attempting to move on from years of inhumane detention on Manus and Nauru.

Together with thousands of supporters and partners across America and around Australia, Ads-Up has:
– Connected newly arrived refugees across America with volunteer Aussie ex-pats in their cities
– Provided urgent medication and medical support for refugees unable to access affordable health insurance
– Issued emergency rent assistance to ensure all refugees are able to remain in safe and stable housing
– Provided educational grants for college and vocational education to help lift refugees out of the minimum-wage poverty trap
– Connected refugees with recruitment agencies and family-reunification visa advice
– Provided newly arrived refugees with warm winter clothing and bedding to get them through North American winters
– Provided refugees with free data and international phone service through our friends at Ultra Mobile, allowing them to look for work, connect with their new community and update friends and family in their countries of origin
– Created a COVID-19 Volunteer Taskforce, to match all refugees with a volunteer to help them navigate the crisis and apply for all stimulus, rental and medical support for which they are eligible.

Please chip in today so we can continue our work to provide a vital safety-net to those rebuilding their lives after years of unlawful detention at the hands of Australian authorities.
