Austin's US Figure Skating Goals

$2,105 of $25k goal

Raised by 28 people in 6 months
Austin Borjas-Ewell, is a 10th grade student who began "Learn to Skate"at the late age of 10 years old.  Within 5 years he has become a high level competitor with the US Figure Skating Association (USFSA).   Austin just competed in the the first qualifying event October 5-10th in Plano, TX known as Southwestern Regionals which included the top Intermediate Men in our 9 state region and placed 3rd, qualifying for the final Sectional qualifying competition (21 state) in mid-November to qualify for the 2017 Prudential US Figure Skating National Championship to be held in January.

Austin is the first San Antonian male figure skater to quailify for Sectionals according to the San Antonio FIgure Skating Club (SAFSC), with the goal of going to Nationals to represent San Antonio and South Texas.   He works very hard skating 5-6 days at the ice rink and still maintains great academic grades at his high school.

Figure skating at Austin's level is very expensive. Between buying ice time, coaching, competitions, and equiptment it costs about $25K a year.  In some countries such as Japan and Russia, the countries train these young people at the governments expense to get to the winter olympics.  This is not the case in the United States.  Unfortunately you need sponsors, the community, family and friends to help support Austin continue in this sport.

Austin has a great opportunity and goal to  join TEAM USA at the Olympics in the near future.  Currently he competes with Intermediate Men and is only three levels away from being a top Senior Level skater at the Olympian level.

In order for Austin to continue his goal and represent South Texas at National events he needs your help.

Please consider helping Austin with his goal of representing South Texas at USFSA competitions and the possiblity of making the Olympic U.S. team.

A separate banking account restricting this money to his figure skating costs has been opened.

Figure skating is a year round sport.  After Nationals in January, all skaters must get right back to practice choeographing both a new short and long program for the USFA qualifying events in 2017 and 2018.

Many thanks to all for your consideration.  No contribution is too small and is very much appreciated.

Please share with all your social media contacts and help Austin reach his goal.
