If we raise $5000, I'm chopping off my hair!

I'm currently serving in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan. On weekends, my colleagues and I go to the markets to buy fresh food for the children at the Juba Orphanage.

While we do make a difference providing food every week, it would be great if we could raise more money to improve the lives of the children. Their beds are in poor condition so we would love to buy new mattresses, mattress protectors and linen along with a larger weekly food budget.

I care about these children so much I am going to cut off my hair (which goes to my waist!) in order to raise these much needed funds.

Any donation will be appreciated l, a little bit goes a long way over here!

Last weekend we got the roof fixed! As you can see from the top photos it was starting to get a bit dangerous, and it's in the area that the kids play and eat in. But now it's been repaired and re-painted... looking much better!
Just another example of how everyone's contributions to this campaign have had a real impact on the daily lives of these kids. Thanks again to everyone who has donated! Stay tuned for more projects... getting quotes this week for work to be done on their classroom!

On Saturday at our Australian Dinner (that had approximately 70 people!), we made the chop! Money was bid to do the honours. After the ponytail was cut, a cry went out for me to keep my hair as a bob rather than shave it. Even more money was raised so we chose to leave it!

I'm sure there are some of you who wanted me bald, but on the night this was the best way to raise even more funds for the orphanage. However if anyone feels mislead by me not shaving, please send me a message and we can discuss it! But I can assure you having hair cut this short after it being long was emotional for me!

But... today we were able to deliver the mattresses to the kids!! What can I say... they were so excited and started to climb and play on the mattress pile. That moment made it all worth it. I'm so thankful for everyone's contribution, you've helped in so many ways. Not only have we been able to provide these kids with some comfy new bedding, but we've also been able to contribute to the local economy.

The extra money we have will be used to buy food, and also to assist with minor projects around the orphanage. What we are able to contribute is so appreciated by the orphanage staff, so thank you all once again for helping us to make a difference.
Some pretty excited kids!

We did it! I'm blown away by everyone's support! Thank you to everyone this will go such a long way to help the kids. As promised, the hair will be going! Sat 15 July is the day for the chop, will be posting photos!

I'll keep the page open for a few months longer in case people would like to contribute more, we can always use more funds to be able to keep up our weekly food shop for the kids.

Thank you all again!
