Audry's Veterinary Bills

This is Audry. Audry is our 4 year-old American Rat Terrier. We sometimes call her “Lil’ Sweet” as she is a very loving dog. (When we introduced a kitten into the house, Audry took on a mother-like role—playing with and loving the kitten.) She is the youngest of our 4 rat terriers. She’s always been full of energy and mischief, but also just a pure joy to have in our home.
Last month, Audry took ill. It started w/ a bump on her upper jaw. She then lost her appetite and stopped drinking her water. She went from 14 lbs. to 11.5 lbs. in just a few weeks. She stopped greeting us in the morning. She took to burrowing under a quilt on the sofa, that is, until she started favoring her right front paw and had a hard time jumping up onto the sofa. We would lift her up onto it, but even that caused her some pain.
Of course, we took her to the veterinarian—twice. She’s had some blood work and some x-rays. She was dehydrated so badly that when the vet went to take blood from her, she had to try 3 times before getting a vein. The vet has determined that Audry is suffering from a tic-borne illness (although which illness is involved is still a mystery as these illnesses often do not appear in blood tests for quite some time). The swollen/sore jaw and joints, as well as the lethargy and lack of appetite are consistent with that diagnosis.
Thankfully, Audry is on the mend. The medication she received on her second visit seems to be bringing her back to us. Her appetite is returning and she is drinking water again. She is no longer hunkered under a blanket all day, and the light is back in her eyes.
Here’s where we ask for your help. Two visits to the vet, multiple tests and 4 medications have put us in the hole nearly $1,000, and Audry is due back for a follow-up visit. This makes things pretty tight around here. We’re going to need to heat the house and have food for our fur-family and ourselves.
Whatever you all can do for us would be greatly appreciated.
