Attila's Next Step

My name is Attila Domos.

I am a paraplegic athlete, musician, and unofficial world record holder.

In 1993, I had a falling accident and became a T11/T12 paraplegic, losing my ability to walk. As an athlete who values my personal freedom, I was determined to prevent my injury from redefining my life. I started taking steps to continue my dream of being an athlete: competitive powerlifting, pushrim marathons, and now, endurance handcycling.

In August of 2016, I broke the 24-hour Handcycling World Record by riding 407.7 miles in 24 hours. However, it happened at my local track in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, without any official representation. As a result, my record is unofficial.

The next step in my journey is to make an official attempt at the 24-hour record.

To do this, I need to get myself, my support crew, and all of my gear to California this November for the officially sanctioned RAAM (Race Across America) timed trial course. I also need to repair my equipment and make sure I have a second trial-ready bike on standby. In addition to my crew, I want to bring and support the small group of filmmakers with me who have been volunteering their time to share my story and bring awareness to the Pittsburgh handcycling community.

I am so excited to make my official attempt, but I need support to get there. The funds raised by this campaign will enable me to chase my dream, and support the people who have been helping me to make that dream possible.

My next step is no longer about me-- it’s about the community that has risen up to encourage, challenge, and care for me. Anything, even a share on social media, helps.
