If you know and love Bon Bon Bon, you know and love Borna and Nee. And right now, they need your support.
Borna was one of the first few employees at Bon Bon Bon, making shells and washing dishes while introducing us to the art of palm reading and Bengali punk rock. Nee would sit in the front window with Sweet Ms. Lou, petting her for hours until we had finished for the day, cleaned up and were ready to go home. The two of them have been rocks here, boulders really, during constant growth and change. Both for the company and for so many of the Babes Babes Babes.
We are raising funds to create the same stability for them. Borna and Nee came to the United States to seek Asylum. the duo left Bangladesh as refugees seeking protection and religious freedom following the murder of Borna's father and backlash to the success of a high profile religious minority radio program that Borna hosted. With their lives and bodies in imminent danger, Borna had to make the unimaginable decision to leave her sons behind in order to protect her and her daughter. We are raising money to cover their legal fees and stabilize their lives in the United States.
They have handled their transition here with grace, creativity and enthusiasm but it has not been easy. The decision that Borna made is one of those amazing, strong and fierce decisions that only a mother could make for a child. That family must make for family. For many of us, Borna and Nee have become family. And, for many of us, we have become the family of Borna and Nee! And because of that, we feel the same fierce love and desire to protect them. The mother-daughter duo does not have a huge network here in the United States, but together we do. As neighbors, friends and coworkers, we can do this! Together, bit by bit, we have the capacity to create security, community and a chance at stability and a safe life for the most beautiful people who so deserve a chance at it.
