Shelby's leukemia is back

We want to help Shelby kick leukemia's ass! This 18 year old's world exploded when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.  She needs all the help she can get, and that includes having her mom by her side,  but that is tough for a single mom who now needs to take an unpaid leave of absence to stay at the hospital.    

This beautiful, warm and generous Carleton Place teen began chemo treatments in November until January, and then went through a bone marrow transplant.  Her mom, Marybeth, like any dedicated mom, hasn't left her side. 

Shelby and Marybeth received some devastating news last week. The chemo and bone marrow transplant that she had did not work and the leukemia (mutates to FLT-3) is back. 

Shelby’s only option at this point is a clinical trial drug being offered in Toronto and this is where they will be staying over the next few months as an outpatient. Travel and accommodation costs are all out of pocket. They have no idea how long the trial will take or what to expect, but we will be sure to update everyone frequently.

They need our support now more than ever to relieve some of the financial strain on Marybeth so she can focus on Shelby’s health and recovery. 

Shelby needs her mom more than anything right now, and we can help make that possible. Marybeth still has to make the mortgage payments, and pay the bills, and come up with the extra funds to pay for parking and take-out food at the hospital.  That's hard to do when you need to stop working so you can be at your child's side during the worst possible time.

We know that Marybeth and Shelby are each other's whole world. Marybeth is a truly devoted mother, but as a single mom, it can be tough to make ends meet.
