Olivia Chute to Spain for World Junior Waterski Championships!

Nova Scotia's Olivia Chute's hard work has paid off, and she has now been selected to represent Canada at the World Junior Waterski Championships scheduled for next month in Sesena, Spain.  At 14, Olivia will be the youngest member on the 6 person team from across Canada, and one of two female members. Olivia is a 2 time National champion in trick skiing and currently holds the Girls U14 and U12 provincial records in both trick and slalom skiing. She has previously represented Canada internationally at the PanAmerican Waterski Championships in Mexico in 2016, and again at the CanAm challenge in Illinois in 2017, and is ecstatic to have a chance to represent her country once again.

In the warmer summer months Olivia enjoys training on the lake her family lives on, Third Lake in Fall River, Nova Scotia. Occasionally she will also take a set at Nova Scotia’s new permanent site, opened just this year; Morris Lake in Dartmouth,Nova Scotia. When the Canadian weather does not allow for home training, Olivia will venture down to Florida, where she trains at Winter Garden Water Ski with Drew Ross, and in West Palm Beach with Jaret Llewellyn. In a typical year she will spend up to two months in Florida training.

Olivia is so committed to training and improving as much as she can. When she gets the chance to train, she makes the best of it because she knows that she is competing against people who get to train all year round. The fact that she is able to keep up to these competitors is truly amazing and is a direct result of her commitment to training and improving. Proof of her training and commitment is the results of her hard work paying off in tournaments. Last season, she had a personal best in trick at every competition she entered. She kept improving at a steady and consistent rate.

Olivia goes out to ski 4 times a day during the summer, and is in the water as soon as it is above 50 degrees Fahrenheight. She is dedicated to training every day and works her hardest on each and every set!

Waterskiing is an amazing and intricate sport with a wonderful community of athletes. The work ethic and motivation of the athletes you will find in this sport is admirable, and Olivia considers herself extremely lucky to be able to ski alongside some of the most incredible athletes in the world.

At the World Junior Championships, Olivia will compete in slalom skiing, where skiers turn around buoys at different speeds and rope lengths, and she will also compete in trick skiing, where skiers complete a sequence of flips, spins, and tricks where the rope is attached to the skiers foot to gain points.

“To be able to represent Canada on the international stage doing what I love most is a huge honour,” Olivia quoted. “I always dreamed this day would come but never imagined it would come so soon!”

Your support will help Olivia to pay for the training time required to ensure she is at her strongest for the competition, as well as expenses her family will face traveling to Spain. The training time, preparation coaching, flight, and hotel expenses are not paid for by Canada, so therefore Olivia is required to raise funds to help cover the associated costs. Any donation that you can offer is appreciated and will help Olivia to live her dream!
