URGENT: Support Due Process and Release for Moms and Children at Border
Please support volunteer work on the border to help immigrant children and moms!
This is your opportunity to support Lisa Johnson-Firth, an experienced removal defense immigration attorney, and Lilly LePelch, an interpreter and school teacher who has a lot of experience working with immigrant children, as they travel to Karnes Detention Center, near the border in TX, to help immigrant mothers and children. Their work will be focused on providing immigration legal support to moms and children fleeing extreme violence in their home countries of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.
When they return, Lisa and Lilly plan to do outreach in the community to share their first-hand experiences and help find more humane and due-process centered approaches for the thousands of refugees at our borders.
Lisa and Lilly will be at Karnes Detention Center from July 8-14, 2018 and need support with travel costs for both of them. Any amount helps!!
Thank you for your generosity of spirit and resources. We feel blessed to be able to take this opportunity to provide our time and expertise to those in need.
Our target is $5500 and any funds remaining after our travel will be donated to BEACON, an ESL program in Virginia and the Centreville Labor Resource Center, Virginia, a program that assists immigrants with skills training.
Background of Lisa Johnson-Firth, Esq. of Immigrants First, PLLC:
Lisa is the founder and managing partner of Immigrants First, PLLC, an immigration and human rights law firm based in Manassas, VA since 2007 with new offices in Winston, NC. She has dedicated her career to assisting immigrants access due process through the immigration courts and routinely advises immigrants and US citizens on their civil and due process rights. She is on the board of two prominent immigration-related nonprofits, and was an adjunct immigration law professor for five years at Georgetown University Law Center. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her legal services and community work. Lisa obtained her JD from Northeastern University School of Law, her LL.B. from the University of Sheffield School of Law and her BA from Allegheny College.

This is Lilly LePelch and I come from Lima, Perú. I am the oldest of three siblings and grew up traveling to different places in my beautiful country. I have been an educator since 1994 and for over a decade in Virginia and have worked with culturally and linguistically diverse learners. Thanks to my parents, I learned to be grateful about the opportunities I have had to grow personally and professionally. Currently, I am a doctoral student at George Mason University. The most important thing in my life is my family and the families that hope to find a better future for their loved ones. I appreciate your kind support to our goal in helping others in need. I am truly honored to join Lisa Johnson-Firth in her support to children and families at the border!

He sido educadora desde 1994 y he trabajado por más de una década en Virginia con alumnos que tienen una diversidad cultural y linguística muy rica. Gracias a mis padres, aprendí a ser agradecida por las oportunidades de progreso personal y profesional. Actualmente, soy estudiante de doctorado en la Universidad George Mason.
