Assembly Language for Pentesters

Donation protected
I'm an information security professional who has been in the industry for some 30 years.  In that time, I've noticed that many younger professionals are missing out on the opportunity to learn Assembly Language as a requirement within computer science and information technology programs during their degree.  This has created a huge knowledge gap and makes the transition into security research and development very difficult.

I am more than 70% finished with an electronic book to be accompanied by a series of videos that walk through hands-on activities (from the book) to provide a top-down approach to Assembly language programming that is specifically targeted at information security professionals.

A top-down approach means that, rather than spending lots and lots of time with theory, we jump straight into learning the language by *doing* things with it.  For example, the first series of projects results in a cold-boot RAM dumping utility running in protected mode, and that's just in the first 60 pages!

From my perspective, part of what is wrong with how we teach programming languages is that we teach the theory first rather than teaching the language.  In this book, I take the approach of teaching Assembly as a *language*, the same way that you would teach someone to speak a spoken language; introduce words, phrases, grammar, etc. as they become needed to complete tasks.  Over time, deep knowledge of the aspects of the language is learned naturally rather than by rote, allowing the learner to apply the knowledge to new problems with little or no guidance.s

The money will be used to fund some equipment and recording time in addition to editorial services to bring this project to completion so that it can actually be used to help others!  There's no particular rush on funds, though I currently have time in my schedule through March 2017 that would allow me to focus on completing this project.

Not only do I appreciate any funds you'd be willing to donate to this end, but I'm certain that many security professionals world over will be thrilled to have this resource available, allowing them to tackle the more difficult technical topics in this field.
