Aryan's India World Challenge 2019

Everyone has a right to education. However, not everyone has access to one. For some rural cities in India, female attendance in schools, in particular, is strongly linked to having a female-specific toilet onsite, and support from the wider family and community. With this in mind this summer, I will be participating in a World Challenge Expedition to India with an aim to improve learning environments by helping schools to stay open, enabling children to continue to receive an education. I will be spending a week helping the local communities.

For a week before volunteering at the school, I will be trekking as a group through the scenic but very tough mountains in Uttarakhand. The trek takes place in the foothills of the Kumaon Himalayas, taking us in the hills in the triangle between Nainital, Ranikhet and Ramnagar. This trek will be hard, but I am committed to giving it my best effort.

On the last week, I will be helping the endangered animals and will be sightseeing. We will be going to the Wildlife SOS Bear Conservation and Care Centre and sightseeing places like Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. At the wildlife SOS centre, we will help create hammock and will be learning about these endangered sloth bears. I will also be having a discussion with experts on the challenges of bear conservation in India.

It will be a challenging three week period, but I am looking forward to being part of something greater where I can help for a huge cause in the community.
