ARVCC Outreach-Church FoodBank Fire

NON-PROFIT TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS NEEDED FOR ARVCC FOOD & CLOTHING BANK TO REBUILD AFTER FIRE! (NO INSURANCE!)

Sifting through the rubble of what "was" my family's food & clothing outreach is a challenging, painful task. Since 2009, Jim & Diane Davis have been providing food, clothing, and household items free to anyone in need, in Russellville, Arkansas and its surrounding areas, with no income questions asked. They are some of the most loving, giving people you could ever meet. As a matter of fact, they "give" to the point of doing without things themselves, in order to provide for our community. I'm proud to call these two "my parents". My name is Patty Hughes Taylor, and my parents and I were beyond shocked when their 501(c)3 non-profit organization called Arkansas River Valley Cherokee Church (ARVCC) Outreach, and its office, went up in flames during the night of December 13.

From this 32' x 80' building we provided food to at least 35 families every week. The families who came, became "family" to us. This same outreach offered clothing and household supplies to anyone who said they needed it. We usually open our outreach doors on the 4th Saturday of every month, and we had around 50 families a month show up to partake. We provide a loving atmosphere for people to come and browse for items that might help their households in their times of need. Even during "closed" times, we helped families to restock. Families who had been victims of fires. Individuals who had suffered divorces or had been laid off. Grandparents who had suddenly gotten emergency custody of children who had nothing but the clothes on their backs. And our whole family was honored to help. And we will continue, as soon as we are able! (These photos show my daughter and my mom, happily working in the outreach center.)

It is in our hearts to serve. We feel led by our God to serve, and we feel that this fire is only a temporary setback! Since this is a nonprofit organization with no outside funding, the monthly bills have always been paid from my dad's pocket, with few donations. The fact that it leaves very little for "him" doesn't enter his mind while he is working so hard to transport food, clothing, and other necessessities every week, or while he is paying the utilities and other costs involved in running an organization of this magnitude.

Our food is donated by local stores. Wednesday night we lost 5 freezers and 2 refrigerators full of meats, along with bread, produce, sweets, and other foods, valued at over $5,000.

People of this community have donated the clothing and other items that filled our huge outreach center. Items included clothing, shoes, dishes, small appliances, bedding, toys, books, knick-knacks, and so much more! Clothing racks were packed with clothes of all sizes. All this is counted as loss.

Our Wednesday night prayers had been that the fire would be contained before reaching our office building. Despite the unfailing efforts of five fire departments, the office, too, became consumed and undertaken by flames. Our computer holding all the records was lost, along with the printer and other office necessities.

Even new tools that my Dad had purchased himself for personal use were destroyed. Several personal items belonging to my parents were destroyed by fire. We are so grateful to God that no-one was injured in this tragedy!

Our task is to CLEAN UP, REBUILD AND RESTOCK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!!!

Our immediate goal is to enclose two huge carports on the property, since we could operate out of those (on a much smaller scale) temporarily, to ensure that people could still receive assistance while funds are being gathered to reconstruct the 32' x 80' outreach building.

WE NEED YOUR HELP WITH FUNDS TO BE USED FOR CLEANUP, REBUILDING, AND RESTOCKING!!

We enjoy giving to our community, and now it's time that we ask for help ourselves. Please consider donating to this worthy charity! Tax receipts will be mailed to you upon request!
