ARTISTS' EVICTION RESISTANCE FUND
UPDATE: The generous donations of friends and strangers has allowed us to apply for an extension of time to lodge our appeal. We now have until 14th February 2019 to lodge an appeal to save our home & stop Lambeth council evicting our family for Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter or forever... We still need to raise more funds to pay for the next step in the standoff with the Council steamroller...
Morganico's artistic family home has just had a possession order granted against it by the judge at the court based on trivial bureaucratic mistakes and misunderstandings on their part & now the council are trying to evict us from our family home of 40 years' residence in Brixton in 6 to 8 weeks' time unless we can raise enough funds to pay for a successful appeal.
The much loved totem pole Morganico carved in Peckham rye shows what an asset this born & bred Londoner is to the area:
He is also well known for painting many large colourful murals in London, including those for the Chelsea Arts Club, Vout O Reenees members' club , Rockingham community centre, many BT cabinet boxes for the Cleaner Greener Safer scheme in Southwark etc. He & his family in London are very valued members of Brixton community life.
Losing our family home of 4 decades not only turns our entire personal life upside down but deprives an artist of his home studio... (& makes a cute cat homeless too!)
We also have costs of around £15,000 to pay for legal fees and loans for court costs so far, and other possible costs of relocating home and creating a new communal studio and work space to move forward with our lives again.
Kato our adopted rescue cat and our friends and family here are now facing a drastic upheaval out of the community they have known and loved for all these decades into a very uncertain future. Any donations towards helping to settle the massive legal bill are gratefully received and we ask that you please share this GoFundMe page far and wide to your contacts.
Morganico is a born & bred London artist who grew up in this house in Brixton and is now facing forceful eviction during a time that really should've been a time celebration as he has just last month had his 1st ever children's book published, while simultaneously trying to survive this court case over the past 11 months. More info on it available below
Displacing our elderly mother in the middle of winter when she has just reached her 70s puts her in a very vulnerable & difficult situation.
We hope that this shocking act of social cleansing action by the council can be stopped before its too late.
Thank you so much for all your kind words of support & encouragement so far.
