NEST ARTISAN LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

Nest is a nonprofit organization bringing transparency, business development and advocacy to the overlooked and underserved community of global artisans. The artisan sector in fact represents a $34B global industry employing more hundreds of millions of people, most of whom are women and mothers. We know that for these small global artisan businesses to grow and thrive in the exporting marketplace, their leaders must have access to training and support from top industry professionals.
In support of this conviction, we launched the We are calling on our Nest family and the GoFundMe community to help fund one artisan to attend our 5-day 2016 Summit in October and we must reach $5000 in funding to cover round-trip travel, lodging, internal travel and program management. We will need to reach our goal by August 31st to leave time for coordinating logistics.
For many of the artisan leaders, their significant isolation from the export marketplace often presents tremendous barriers to understanding the corporate culture, quality expectations, and rigorous timelines that are often demanded of them. By fostering a safe forum for exchange and discussion between professionals steeped in the culture of the fashion and design industries of New York, and batik artisans from West Java or hand loom silk-weavers from Varanasi, India, important conversations will be had to bridge the cultural gaps that can make artisan-brand relationships challenging.
Each artisan business leader who attends the Summit supports on average a staff of 45 artisans, yielding a ripple effect of impact. All leaders who are eligible for Summit attendance share Nest's mission to leverage business development as a mechanism for poverty alleviation, women's empowerment and cultural preservation in their communities.
We hope that our community will help us reach our goal of bringing 20 artisan business leaders to this year’s Summit, by making one artisan leader's trip possible.
