Art program for kids in Guatemala
Donation protected
My name is Cristina Del Hoyo and I am the Guatemala Project Specialist for the Center for Global Health at the University of Colorado in Denver. I am also a professional painter and I am originally from Spain. I will be collaborating with Dr. Alejandra Paniagua-Avila and the psychologists Desiree Bauer and Sara Hernandez to provide the 2nd round of the art program "Paint Your Life" in 2019.
This art program is based on art therapy and serves children in the impoverished region of Trifinio in the Southwest of Guatemala. We delivered the program for the 1st time in April of 2018 and it was a complete success. The kids did not want the program to end as they never have the opportunity or the supplies to create and to do art. We plan to continue to provide an art program that allows them to create and express themselves as individuals and as a community.
The objective of this program is not to teach children how to draw or paint; rather, it is to give voice to a community that has neither voice nor representation in many aspects of daily life. This community especially lacks art and mental health programs. This project is aimed at promoting community engagement by creating and sharing a common creative space and time in which children can express their emotions, hopes and dreams.
We believe in art and expression as a transformative tool to empower communities and to foster social change. The Center for Global Health at the University of Colorado will fund this project almost entirely. We only need to raise funds to provide art supplies for these children in rural Guatemala. $15 will provide art materials for one child for the art program sessions for a whole week. We will send a print of artwork produced by children from the program to anyone who supports this campaign with at least $15.
Thanks for supporting this art program for children in rural Guatemala!
