Art for the Heart, From the Heart
Friends of Hwange ( www.friendsofhwange.org) is a non-profit organization based in Zimbabwe and directed by Dave and Paula Dell (with support from their daughter Nicki Dell in New York). Hwange National Park is home to a huge diversity of animals and birds, including thousands of elephants. However, the Park has no natural surface water during the dry season. For the wildlife to survive, water has to be pumped from underground using boreholes equipped with solar pumps — an eco-friendly and sustainable solution. To ensure that the wildlife survives the next dry season, Friends of Hwange urgently needs to raise $65,000 that will be used to drill 5 new boreholes and install 5 new solar water pumps that will provide water for 2500 elephants (as well as all the other species). Here's where you can help!
Greg Polisseni has graciously created and donated dozens of original artworks that will be sold in Rochester through November and December at very reduced prices in support of this worthy cause. You will be able to own an original artwork AND know that your money is providing life-saving water to many wild animals in Africa. You will also receive a certificate acknowledging your generosity. The art will be on display through November and December at JB's Smokehouse restaurant in East Rochester NY (211 Main Street, East Rochester, NY 14445). Paintings must be purchased on location at JB's Smokehouse.
If you are unable to come and purchase a painting in Rochester, you can still give an elephant the gift of “water for life” this holiday season. One borehole/solar unit costs $12,500 to purchase and install and provides enough water for 500 elephants. Since the pumps last for many years, a donation of just $25 provides water for one elephant for the majority of it’s life! Instead of spending money on material gifts this holiday season, why not purchase “Water for Life” gift certificates in the names of your family and friends?
Greg and Friends of Hwange thank you for your support and generosity. Together we can save this precious wildlife!
A few days ago I posted some GoPro footage of our team rescuing a baby elephant in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe.
If you were unable to view the footage, it is available on Youtube by clicking on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zm-XO2D3b8E.
The video is 4:30 minutes and worth every second.
Thanks again for your wonderful support!
Thank you all again for your support!
Thanks for the fantastic support of this campaign so far! We're almost at the mark where we can start drilling boreholes!
To make sure that every dollar of your contributions makes it to Friends of Hwange, I will personally be withdrawing the funds and sending them via electronic wire transfer to the Friends of Hwange bank account (details of the account can be found at http://friendsofhwange.com/donations/).
Please keep your contributions flowing in! We very much appreciate all of the support!
