Welcome!

Thanks so very much for visiting my gofundme page!

I am very excited to be running for a seat on the Montebello Unified School District Board of Education.  If elected, I look forward to the opportunity to serve students, parents and all employees of the district.  Election day is November 6th, 2018.  Please don't forget to vote!

Below you will find my background and qualifications.  You can get more acquainted with me on my Facebook page "Friends of Art Chavez for MUSD Board of Education 2018" or on my website chavez4musdboard.com .

You can also reach me at [email redacted] or [phone redacted].

Please support my financial goal of $14,450 to effectively reach out to as many residents as I can.  No contribution is too small!  If you prefer to mail a check, feel free to call or e-mail us for instructions!

Background and Qualifications:

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I majored in Business Administration.  I also earned my Associate of Arts “Cum Laude” from East Los Angeles College, where I majored in Accounting. My K-12 education was through the Montebello Unified School District.  I was the Senior Class President and an All-CIF football player at Schurr High School where we won the 1980 CIF Championship.  I am an Eagle Scout from Troop 375, Miraculous Medal Church in Montebello.  I was nominated by Schurr High School and selected by the American Legion, during my junior year, to attend Boys State in Sacramento.

During my 21-year career with Verizon (now Frontier), I managed multi-million-dollar projects, for Verizon International in Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Argentina and Mexico.  I developed a strong background in contractor/vendor management as an Account Manager, Project Manager, Senior Staff Consultant, National Store Design Manager and Channel Manager. It was critical that we selected the best contractor/vendors and held them accountable to deliver results on target budgets and time.  I believe this type of experience can help.  A school board should ensure that the companies, that they do business with, should be aligned with its objectives and be held accountable to deliver on its promises.  Prior to my career with Frontier, I was a dues paying member of the Teamsters, for three years, while working my way through college.

While I was a resident of the City of Irving/Texas 2005-2006, I was appointed by the city council to serve on the Housing & Human Services Board and served as Vice President of a great local Non-Profit "Debes Creer En Ti" (Believe in Yourself, Inc).

I believe any budget decisions need to factor in the level of impact to the students/classrooms. I also believe that district employees/teachers/administrators that have an issue, should have an additional avenue (peer/administrator committee) to address it.   A school board should be transparent and accessible to the public to truly understand the needs of every neighborhood of the district.  Parents have hopes and dreams, when they send their children to our schools, and want to have a voice and influence in their education.
