Help Keep Arroyo Grande Safe!

Arroyo Grande, CA is a beautiful, small town (population 17,716) a few miles from the California coast and about mid-way between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

We have an excellent police department that includes 26 sworn officers and consistently ranks at or near the best in virtually every performance category used for law enforcement (e.g., response times, crime rate, citizen complaints).  The department has operated a highly acclaimed K-9 program for nearly 32 years and provides K-9 services upon request throughout the region.  Our most recent successes are attributed to the presence of two K-9’s, Gregor and Daghan, both male German Shepherds.

For the past six years, Gregor and Daghan have assisted officers and protected our citizens by locating and apprehending suspects, finding narcotics in vehicles, homes, apartments, businesses and school lockers, and participating in countless demonstrations and public events to inform the public about the valuable role they play in keeping Arroyo Grande safe.

Unfortunately, Gregor had to be retired recently due to an autoimmune disease that had affected his joints and nearly paralyzed him.  He was a wonderful and brave K-9, with countless accomplishments as an AGPD “officer.”  Upon his retirement he was feted by the Arroyo Grande City Council in recognition of his service to our community.

In order to continue providing 24/7 K-9 coverage for Arroyo Grande (and other nearby communities that lack a K-9), we have embarked on a campaign to raise the funds necessary to acquire, train, support and put into service Gregor’s replacement.

The good news is – we’ve found Gregor’s replacement!  His name is “Tig”, another male German Shepherd, who’s anxious to join our department, be trained with his handler Officer Jeff Corral, and continue the tradition of protecting the citizens of Arroyo Grande.

Acquiring Tig, training him and Officer Corral as a team and providing necessary medical and other support is expensive - about $30,000.  Neither our department nor our city government have these funds available so, as in the past, our success will depend entirely on contributions from those who want to be a part of keeping Arroyo Grande safe.
Please step forward and do what you can to help our campaign.  The citizens of Arroyo Grande thank you!

We would be happy to answer questions you may have about our efforts to have Tig report for duty.  Please contact Officer Corral at:  [email redacted].
