Arms Around Sophia Smith

Our dear friend's daughter, 10-year-old Sophia Smith from Marblehead, MA was diagnosed with an aggressive, rare inoperable brain tumor on March 1st of this year. She has been receiving medical treatment here at Children's Hospital in Boston and is currently at home with her parents, Jennifer(Babine) and Dave, and sweet sisters, Tessa and Annabelle.
With 6 weeks of radiation completed, and test results in hand from Sophia's medical team in Boston, the next step in her journey is promising new pioneering treatment currently not available in the United States. In just a few weeks, Sophia's battle is taking her to the Harley Street Clinic in London where she has gained acceptance for treatment. Time is of the essence, as Sophia's parents found out just last Friday afternoon there is opening for her at the end of June for surgery and treatment to begin. The family would greatly appreciate any assistance with the significant anticipated medical bills, transportation and related costs, which are not covered by insurance.
Through the challenging treatment thus far, Sophia's spirit has never broken. Her laugh is infectious, her smile always bright. So loving and feisty, Sophia has always been the girl who loves to be outside and never stops moving! When feeling well, she goes a mile a minute! Sophia loves to play softball. At the same time, she is very artistic and enjoys coloring, painting, crafts, puzzles, and building big Lego structures!
Sophia is an awesome photographer who has an natural eye. It is amazing that somehow, she is always able to capture a moment. Sophia lives by the water, which might be the reason her favorite color is blue. One of her favorite things to do is to go to the beach to collect sea glass and shells! She also loves
helping her Fisherman Dad paint buoys and work on lobster traps.
She is the greatest little sister to Tessa, and the best of friends with her twin sister, Annabelle. She loves being with her family, helping her Dad and spending time with her Mom, doing everyday things like snuggling, telling stories, and giggling. Sophia loves time spent with her friends and her big, extended family. As one of 11 cousins, her aunts, uncles, and her wide circle of friends -- old, young, near, and far, you name it -- adore Sophia. At all of 10-years-old, she has stolen our hearts.
Above all, Sophia is truly a warrior! She is so brave and has been so tough, throughout all of this. Never once has she complained, looked for pity from anyone or said, "poor me." Every day Sophia inspires us with her willingness to try, her courage and determination.
The truth is that cancer is never kind or anyone's friend. But an even greater truth, which we all know deep in our hearts and with undeniable certainty, is that close friends and family will always stand together with us as one to fight this unimaginable battle. Together with you, we wrap our #armsaroundsophia with great love, hope, and our prayers for her good health and healing.
