Matthew & Karen Porter Fire Relief
Please help out.
This is all so new that we are only just getting organized, but they need some help now to be able to get by and start rebuilding. We will update and keep things moving.
(I am Rob Bradshaw, acting to help and solely for their benefit. Please contact me with questions or concerns. )
THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!
They tell us that today is #givivgtuesday , and one of the biggest days of the year for donations to the so many good causes out there. If you happen to be in that helping-the-world-be-a-better-place mode, please consider adding to Karen and Matthew's campaign to rebuild their home and dreams. Winter is coming, and every bit of help matters, as much to all of our hearts as well as to those small details like food and shelter.
The wheels of progress are slowly rolling forward, so please look out for a detailed status and plans coming soon. Nothing could be happening at all without your generosity and kindness.
Cheers, and a Happy Belated Thanksgiving!
The PorterHouse saber tournament will take place at Premier Fencing in Carmichael, California, on October 30. More information can be found at:
In a very real sense, every dollar raised for the Porters is another set of fasteners, piece of wiring, piece of pipe, part of a wall. The wishes of Matthew and Karen are to rebuild on the same location in Lower Lake because they purchased the lot in cash. They must wait until at least the end of October for the state to clear the lot and validate its safety before they can begin to fill in their rebuilding paperwork. This will be a long process and we will let you know how it develops.
We have received many wonderful offers of furniture, tools, appliances, and labor to help in the rebuilding. Please know how much these offers are appreciated, and will be needed in the future. We will notify you all when the time is right.
You have all been part of a huge, heartwarming, and life-changing effort to restore the hopes of this very deserving couple. Please know how much difference every one of you has made.
Until the next update, keep spreading the word, and happy stabbing!
This Sunday, October 16th, the PorterHouse (see what we did there?) fencing tournaments will be held in three different locations in the Bay Area. Information is here:
The PorterHouse Open - A benefit tournament for Matthew and Karen Porter. Sunday, October 16.
Men’s and Women’s Opens...
- Epee at The Fencing Center
- Saber at Premier Fencing Academy,
- Foil at Halberstadt Fencers' Club
As always, this fundraiser is run entirely by volunteers. All funds go directly to Matthew and Karen. Questions, concerns, and requests for receipts can be directed here or to the tournament organizers.
Have a great tournament, and happy stabbing!
We, meaning All of You, have truly changed the world for the better. We've raised $70,000! This will help in ways beyond our imagining, and I know Matthew and Karen are beyond grateful.
As much as we have done, as the first rains of the year approach it would be excellent of us all to continue to spread the word again and see if we can help further.
May you all feel the love and reap the good karma you have sown!

Hello Matthew! I am a friend of Avis Minger, one of your Faire friends of the past. She says "hello!" and hopes you aren't discouraged by this setback. Avis is suffering from cancer, and hasn't much longer. She is not on the computer anymore, but you can visit her fundraising page for updates on her care; you can also call her -- PM me for her cell number, which she usually answers unless they've moved her phone to where she can't reach it. : https://www.youcaring.com/avis-minger-607595#goto-updates
So sorry to hear about your loss, but I'm glad I was able to contribute. I only hope I have as many friends to call upon should something similar happen to me. I'm a kitchen & cabinetry designer, so should you need anything in the future just let me know. I think my vendors would consider helping out.
