The Arklow United U18 squad has been invited to take part in one of the biggest soccer tournaments and scholarship events in America in the month of September, The IMG College showcase in Bradenton Florida offers players exposure to college coaches from some of the top programs in the nation.
The squad, which is made up of 18 local lads aged between 16-18 years old, has been training together as a team for over a decade. This trip gives them the opportunity to showcase their talents to American Universities as well as the chance to obtain a scholarship in one of these colleges. It is quite simply, a potentially life changing trip.
As you could imagine, there is a significant cost factor involved in this. This once in a lifetime trip will cost in the region of €20,000. We have put together a plan to fundraise the money. Unfortunately if unsuccessful, each player and coach will have to pay out €1500 approx. We are asking the club and players to fund their journeys, but we are also asking if businesses could make a small contribution to assist us and alleviate the financial pressure. Our players come from very mixed backgrounds and socio economic circumstances.
The plan consists of 3 things:
1. Club fundraising
2. Business contributions
3. Player contributions
