When Freedom Came

My name is Arama Christiana. I am an author and actress. I grew up in Freetown, Sierra Leone and attended The Methodist Girls High School and St. Joseph's Convent. I currently reside in North Carolina with my family.My first book, The Children of Sierra Leone was published by Richard C. Owens Publishers. I'm currently working on self-publishing my second children's book, When Freedom Came.

When Freedom Came is a chapter book that carries a montage sequence - where the narrator, nine-year-old Boshigo, is looking at the current result of freedom from the lens of 3 generations (her, her mother and her grandmother). When her Gran'mama went blind, Boshigoi became her eyes; and for years, her Gran'mama spoke of Freedom as if she were an old friend of the people of South Africa. Boshigo shares the fear and anticipation, and the joy she feels as she helps her 96-year-old grandmother vote for the first time in South Africa. Boshigo has helped to make history, but more importantly, she was there the day when Freedom came to her people in South Africa.

So the story has been written, I've had two different editors review for 1) historical facts and accuracy, and 2) grammar, spelling, consistency of voice, etc.  So what do I do in the meantime while the illustrations are in progress?  Raise funds to publish, When Freedom Came. Here is the breakdown of funds to make it all happen:

Consultancy Fees - $150
Illustrator Fees - $600
Cost of Marketing Materials -  $500
Website Revamp - $200
Cost of Producing Audio Book - $600
Cost of Using - $50

For every donation of $20 and above, you will receive an autographed, When Freedom Came book.

My goal is to have the funds raised by mid-March 2015!
