April needs a new best friend!
April has lived with Cerebral Palsy and deafness since birth, but partly due to her incredible will and great family, she has lived a near-normal life. Part of that love has always been pets. But April has recently lost her beloved pet, a Golden Retriever named Dazy. She actually has experienced a lot of loss over the last several years. First, her grandmother passed away in 2014, which was hard on both April & her family. Then last year, several of her pets passed away too: her cat, Xena, died of cancer in July 2015; in Oct her best friend, Dazy died of cancer; and 2 weeks later, her other cat, Gus, also died. During this whole time, a third cat, Pita, ran away. With all of the loss of pets & family that April has experienced in such a short amount of time, April is just devastated. She sometimes still cries at night because Dazy was always there to cuddle up next to her and comfort her.
Dazy and April were inseparable! Dazy always looked out for April and protected her. They were best friends. Even though April does speak America Sign Language (ASL), Cerebral Palsy and deafness together can be very isolating and lonely. Having a pet around helped bring April companionship and happiness, something she misses greatly with the losses she has endured.
April would like to be able to get an ASL trained service dog. The funds raised will help her get a new companion. A trained service dog can help April with her balance and walking, since she is quite unstable walking on any uneven surface. She would be able to have more mobility and to travel with an ASL trained service dog. April would be able to cuddle up to her best friend at night and have great comfort.
