Celebrating 35 years of Service

$600 of $100,000 goal

Raised by 7 people in 12 months
Created January 24, 2018
Since 1983, AIDS Project of the East Bay (APEB) has provided culturally-informed, client-centered services to communities most impacted by the ongoing HIV epidemic. To celebrate our 35th Anniversary, we have set a goal of raising $100,000 so that people in need can continue to access food pantry services, group and individual psychosocial support, medical case management, housing support, comprehensive sexual health education, HIV prevention and treatment navigation, and youth-centered programming at no cost.

Many clients and community members wondered if APEB would be able to recover from the June 2016 fire that suspended operations at the main location in downtown Oakland for more than a year. The uncertainty seemed warranted after a season of successive leadership transitions. APEB survived the transitions and the fire, but we need your help to stay in the fight. To help offset the rising cost of leased space due to gentrification in Oakland and APEB’s continued recovery, we are asking that you support the ongoing operations of the agency by contributing $3500, $350, or $35 to our “$35-for-35” Anniversary Fundraising Campaign.

According to an analysis by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1 in 2 black men who have sex with men in the United States will be diagnosed with HIV during their lifetime if current HIV diagnosis rates persist. Contributions from donors like you help to make APEB Alameda County’s premier community-based organization for African American men and transgender men and women of color.
