Antigua Baby Dolphin Rescue

Donation protected
On Friday January 4, 2019, a  six month old female Pantropical Spotted dolphin was seen swimming very slowly about 15 feet off of the beach at Crawl Bay, Antigua.  After consulting with various local and international conservationists and marine mammal experts, it was decided that she had most likely lost her mother and that the only chance for her to survive would be to rescue her.  She was brought to the nearest salt-treated swimming pool and a team of marine mammal experts flew in from San Juan, Puerto Rico to assist.  She has required 24-7 care for the last 9 days and a team of over 50 volunteers continue to donate their time to care for her by covering 1-2 hour shifts, mostly swimming in the pool with her.  After consulting with numerous dolphin experts, it was decided that she has a realistic chance of being rehabilitated and released back into the wild.  We are now trying to raise funds to cover the costs of flying in the veterinary team,  the cost of returning the homeowner's pool back to a usable condition and other related costs. The dolphin is now scheduled to be transferred to St Kitts where she will be able to grow to a point where she can eat solid food and will have a chance to be successfully released into a wild pod of her own species or if not possible, transferred to a dolphin sanctuary.  All funds raised on this site will be donated directly to our rescue efforts through Julie Esty, our fundraising coordinator. Any financial assistance toward our efforts would be greatly appreciated.
