Answers for Alison

Donation protected
Alison has undergone several brain surgeries in the past few years which have been  successful in relieving certain symptoms. However, she has continued to develop new and alarming symptoms and pain throughout her body, including her head. At this point, most days Alison is house- and/or bed-bound due to inexplicable fatigue, cognitive dysfunction, severe chronic pain, and a multitude of other symptoms. Roommates and long-time friends have noticed a significant change in her energy, memory, and cognitive function. Some have remarked that it seems like she is becoming less and less "Alison" in all the ways they have known her. Alison has expressed feeling this way about herself as well and finds the state of her health digression incredibly scary and disheartening.

Most of Alison’s doctors are out of ideas. However, Alison talked to a couple of her doctors a few weeks ago to discuss the possibility of an additional underlying cause to her now 30+ medical diagnoses. These doctors believe some could possibly be connected and have tested her for a range of conditions and diseases. In mid-June, she tested positive on the Western Blot Test for “acute Lyme disease.” Because exhaustive medical treatments have failed to bring improvement and many of her conditions are actually progressively worsening, Alison and a couple of her doctors are now wondering how many of these 30+ conditions she actually has and whether Lyme disease could be the main underlying cause and primary contributing factor to the decline in her health.

Due to the complexity of Alison’s case and severity of her symptoms, she has been referred to a world-renowned neurologist in Connecticut who specializes in Lyme disease and is also well versed in Alison’s other rare neurological conditions. Like many world-renowned specialists, he is not contracted with any insurance companies. This means that Alison will be responsible for paying for all of her medical care out of pocket: appointments, prior significant medical history review and consultation with other medical professionals, extensive lab testing, and whatever treatments best suit her specific case. Additionally, she needs funding to cover the costs associated with various people taking Alison to these appointments out of state: gas, plane tickets, lodging, food, etc.

The estimated cost to cover her treatment needs and related expenses will be $15,000. Our goal is to raise this as soon as possible, because the majority of payment is upfront for the care. Alison was hoping to get an appointment with this specialist sometime in 2019 and just found out he had a cancellation and she miraculously will be able to be seen this coming Tuesday (7/23). This is incredible news! That said, Alison now needs to raise $2,500 by Tuesday, the 23rd in order to pay for the initial consultation and traveling expenses. All labs will be done at this time as well, but thankfully she will be billed for all of those in a couple weeks. With this specialist’s care, Alison could potentially return to leading a normal life! She could not be more excited and thankful for the opportunity to see this doctor; the conversations she has had with his patients have been the most hopeful and encouraging that Alison has ever had regarding her health. No other doctors have offered anywhere near this kind of hope for physical improvement.

Would you please consider helping with some of the costs?  GoFundMe contributions might be the most convenient for you, but there is nearly a 10% fee for each contribution that they take out of your donation for processing (which they do not account for in the monetary goal). GoFundMe does allow campaigns to upload donations given by other methods, and Alison will add every venmo and check amount along with the initials of who sent it so that everyone can see the progress updated on the campaign's site. Would you consider using another method to maximize the impact of your donation?  Here are other options that would be helpful:
-Check sent to: Alison Singewald; 3205 Ivey Wood Lane, Durham, NC 27703
-Venmo (a user-friendly app that transfers money without charge. Username: @alisonsingewald)

Thank you so much for your prayers and thoughts and thank you for considering joining together with others to help Alison afford this potentially life-changing opportunity to be this doctor’s patient and get the treatment that she desperately needs. Every amount, big or small, will make a huge impact. Thank you!
