As many of you know, Anastasia was placed into a wheelchair three years ago, just before she turned five years old. Her wheelchair is amazing, but it doesn’t fit into my vehicle without disassembly (a 15 minute, physically exhausting ordeal) and reassembly (an even lengthier process with possible parts damage over time). Her extremely small stature allowed for safe travels in her five-point, harnessed car seat until recently, when she grew faster than she ever has before. I am I overjoyed to see her finally reaching some of the physical milestones we never thought possible. However, her development has the one set back... she is outgrowing the only form of safe transportation we have for her, and adaptive car seats are officially out of the realm of possibilities.
I have searched online, in local magazines and newspapers, and visited dealerships all over the state of Ohio, but I have yet to find an affordable, reliable vehicle option. The harder I look, the more this task seems impossible. The funding goal I have set here will be used to purchase a used handicap van so that Anastasia will not be confined to staying at home, when she could be spending her summer having just as much fun as any other spunky, soon-to-be THIRD GRADER.
I have not chosen the exact vehicle that I would like to purchase yet, but there are a variety of perfect fits right here in northeast Ohio, so I am asking for help. I’m asking for the freedom to let my child live her best and happiest life. I’m asking for family vacations, opportunities to go wherever the road takes us, adventures to museums, water parks, pumpkin patches, and movie theaters... but more importantly, I’m asking for safety and stability for my child. Not every car ride will lead to the happiest place on earth. We have doctors appointments, therapies, school meetings, and a plethora of other “adventures” to tackle every single day. So my biggest ask... is for the opportunity to do everything that I know I need to do to give her everything she needs to live her best life.
