Dear Friends,
On October 20th 2018 I'm taking part in Andrew Logan's Alternative Miss World at The Globe Theatre London. This is an alternative beauty pageant which is the brainchild of the legendary artist Andrew Logan since the 1970s, some of the artists competing have been icons of their era including Derek Jarman, Leigh Bowery, Divine, Grayson Perry among others. I've been wanting to take part in this event for a long time and especially after interning for Andrew Logan in 2009 - each year he accepts a maximum of 20 applicants so this is a real honour!
For this I have to make 3 outfits - swimwear, daywear and eveningwear. All the costumes are currently in the works being completely hand crafted.
I ask for your support at this later stage as sadly one of my sponsors fell through so I would appreciate your donations, whatever the amount, to help me to create and finish the intricately embroidered wearable artworks!
Even though I am using mainly recycled materials like plastic bags and tights, to bring the designs to life, I am aiming to raise £1,500 to help cover purely the costs (and not my time) of the materials required for the costumes:
• Over a million crystal beads
• 5,000 metres of nylon thread
• Over 3,000 Swarovski crystals
• 700 peacock feathers
• Wire, felt, tulle, lights and lots more
Any donations are very welcome and will be hugely appreciated. If you can make a larger donation, I will use the leftover material after the competition and in return will make you a bespoke gift:
• £50 – earrings or a bow tie
• £100 – necklace or a brooch
• £250– a headpiece or embroider your jacket or coat
• £500 – a ticket to sold out event to Alternative Miss World at the Globe AND embroidery on an item of your choice or a headpiece
You can also help me by giving me your bright coloured plastic bags, ring pulls from cans, tights or bottle tops to be recycled or some old broken jewellery - anything shiny - I would love to use them in my costumes, let me know how I can get them from you, by post or in person, just drop me an email to [email redacted].
