Help us raise awareness about animal welfare and support animal sanctuaries who are dedicated to this work!

Everyone has the power and potential to positively change the world. As humans become more aware of our interconnectedness with the world around us, we can develop the courage to live more compassionate lives.

Many people have the desire to live more compassionately yet might not know where to begin.

Living compassionately looks different for everybody but ultimately it's about finding ways to make the world a better place. For us at The Seva Life, our journey towards a more compassionate life has included adopting a plant-based diet and finding opportunities for more sustainable, earth-friendly ways of living.

Visiting a farm sanctuary a couple years ago was a major catalyst for us to open our hearts and our minds enough to want to make meaningful changes in our life that served a greater good.

Meeting people who were brave enough to stand up for the protection of animals and create safe spaces for them to live freely was absolutely inspiring. Spending time with the sentient beings who called these spaces home created a deep and lasting impression that shifted our beliefs and influenced our worldview.

Shortly after that first visit we became inspired to live a more compassionate life, and now we are on a mission to inspire others to do the same...

The Seva Life's Animal Sanctuary Compassion Tour

We are embarking on a cross-country road trip to profile some of the people who are committed to compassionate living. We plan to visit and volunteer at more than a dozen animal sanctuaries to meet the wonderful people who own and operate the spaces, and their furry and feathered residents.

Our goal is to learn more about how these inspiring individuals embarked on their journeys, what motivates them and their work, share their stories in the hopes of inspiring others to consider making lifestyle changes that reduce the amount of harm that humans do to animals.

Our journey starts in Hamilton, Ontario. From mid-September to the end of October we will be traveling West across Canada and back East via the US in our minivan, which we are converting into a cozy yet functional mini camper.

What else?

While on the road we want to live as carbon neutral and zero-waste as possible, while living off of a plant-based diet. We’ll actually be offsetting our carbon footprint by working with trees.org to plant trees and build sustainable forests!

Along the way, we’ll document our travels with photos, videos and blog posts on www.thesevalife.com . Ultimately, the research and experience we gather from this trip will shape the content for our first book about compassionate living, which will be released in 2019!

What's the money for?

Great question. We are fundraising to help cover a portion of the costs related to this trip, mostly fuel and campsite costs, so that we can focus on the work of profiling animal sanctuaries and promoting compassionate living. We are stepping away from our current jobs and volunteering our time at the sanctuaries, so any amount truly helps us.

Our biggest expense on this trip will be fuel, coming in at over $2500. We will be car camping throughout the trip, staying at basic campsites which will cost around $2000.

We are taking seriously the advice to “expect the unexpected,” so the rest is to cover minor car maintenance that we expect to incur along the +10,000 kilometre journey.

Any money we receive over and above our target amount (what a dream!) will go towards the publication of our book.

Any amount helps

Without a doubt, your contribution helps make this journey possible. In supporting this trip, you're really helping to support animal welfare advocacy, which ultimately results in a more compassionate world.

Thank you so much for helping us volunteer, raise awareness about animal welfare and promote compassionate living! We are SO grateful for your support.

In kindness,

Nicole Catenazzi & Chris James Ryan

We did it!

We can hardly believe it, but we just finished The Animal Sanctuary Compassion Tour!

It has been a whirlwind 7-week adventure: we drove more than 10,000 kilometres, visited 15 animal sanctuaries across Canada and the US and met hundreds of lucky animals who call those places home. And of course, we met so many wonderful people who do the *very* hard work to keep the animals safe, happy and free.

As we slowly get back into the routines of "normal" life (like being able to get dressed standing up, sleeping indoors, and showering without shoes on), we wanted to take the time to thank you, our generous donors, who have helped make The Animal Sanctuary Compassion Tour possible.

The journey was rewarding, and inspiring and incredibly challenging at times but we were able to push through because of your support. We aren't sure if we'll ever find the words to thank you for being part of this journey with us, so until we do: THANK YOU, from the bottom of our hearts.

We are continuing to share stories from each of the sanctuaries we visited on the Tour. You can visit our website to read the first four stops: https://www.thesevalife.com/taxonomy/term/72

Subscribe to our newsletter to get notified as we publish stories from the other sanctuaries, and other highlights from the Tour: https://thesevalife.us16.list-manage.com/subscribe/post?u=f3958e9696a692814bda3a066&id=6e3446c328

If you want to continue to support our work, and get support to live more compassionately in your own lives, you can join our community of Compassion Warriors: https://www.patreon.com/thesevalife/overview

Thank you again for your being with us over these last few months, and for helping us spread the message of compassionate living.

Update from the road: The Animal Sanctuary Compassion Tour is underway!

We're on Day 11 of the Tour and have been so blown away by everyone we have met (animals included) and the places we've seen so far.

The first week of the Tour flew by as we tried to get into a groove; making sure we balanced our driving time, with time to enjoy the places we were visiting. We didn't quite finish the van build before we left, so there were several trips to Home Depot those first few days as we were figuring it all out as we went.

We've already visited four sanctuaries (one in each of Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta). Each one has been so unique but they all share the same resolve: a deep care and compassion for farm animals, and a desire to help them live their lives to the fullest.

Our first sanctuary was Wishing Well in Bradford, Ontario, and we have just posted an in-depth look of our time spent there: https://www.thesevalife.com/blog/wishing-well-sanctuary-place-make-peace-yourself

We also posted a few updates about the stops we're making along the way ( https://www.thesevalife.com/blog/sanctuary-stops-animal-sanctuary-compassion-tour), and some of the planning decisions we made before we hit the road ( https://www.thesevalife.com/blog/how-we-got-ready-low-waste-carbon-neutral-vegan-vanlife-road-trip).

We are so very grateful for the support we have received from this fundraising campaign so far. We're spending about $30/night on campsite fees and about $60/day in fuel, so every bit of your contributions help us greatly.

We still have a ways to go with our fundraising efforts and we'd love it if you keep sharing this page with anyone you know! We've already connected to so many new people through GoFundMe, social media, and our sanctuary tours -- it's been such a blessing to see the support grow.

Our next leg of the journey takes us through the rockies to BC, and then into the United States by the end of next week! Wish us luck -- you're always in our thoughts :)

In kindness,

Nicole & Chris

Update #1 - One Week to Go!

Hi everyone!
First of all, let me say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We have been so blown away by the support and are incredibly thankful for anyone who has taken the time to read about The Animal Sanctuary Compassion Tour, share it online and pitch in to help out. It feels amazing to know that we have your support and we'll be thinking of each and every one of you as we make our way across Canada and the US this fall.

Second, we are ONE WEEK AWAY from departure day! It's hard to believe how quickly time has gone (and hard to believe how much planning and prep we still have to do!) but we're in the final stretch of the van build and will be ready to go in no time.

We spent the past weekend in Toronto at Veg Food Fest; North America's largest vegan festival where we got to speak about compassionate living and meet lots of other people who are committed to this kind of work. It was an inspiring few days and definitely gave us a fresh burst of energy around this trip. We met lots of people who were excited about our Tour and it reconfirmed for us just how important to connect with animals in ways that allow us to see them as we are: loving, caring, and intelligent beings full of personality.

We also got some great advice about low-waste travel and were able to test out our rechargeable battery pack and electric cooler, which we'll use to power our "kitchen" and devices on the road.

We'll begin installing the rest of the van build in the coming days and will share another update with you all soon.

Thank you again for being part of this journey with us. We truly appreciate your support!

In kindness,
Nicole & Chris
