On December 18th 2017, Angie, at the age of 31, began treatment for invasive ductal mammary cancer, a Stage 2B breast cancer. After several tests, doctors decided she should run the gauntlet of treatments to give her the best odds of beating this disease. Angie began with months of crippling chemotherapy to help reduce the size of the lesion, followed by  surgical removal and a successful double mastectomy.  During the year, Angie has suffered the extreme physical and mental changes that come with treatment – hair loss, weight loss, fatigue, nerve damage and stress.  At times, she has felt stripped of her womanhood, her youth, and her happiness.

As devastating as this has been for her over the past months, Angie  found strength through humor, music and this quote from Eleanor Roosevelt. I'd like to offer those same words to all of you as a way to reassure that my Angie is healing:  "A woman is like a teabag - you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water."

When she began this battle, Angie was scared.  Not only was she having to focus all her attention on fighting for her life, but she also had to take a long leave of absence from her job as a photojournalist, as the physical demands of the job have proven too much for her recovering body.  Inevitably, in turn, that has placed a financial strain on Angie and her husband of nearly 4 years.

As she heads down the final stretch of 2018, a brutal year, Angie is awaiting the date for her reconstructive surgery to repair the damage done by cancer.  She is hopeful to be back in full force before this holiday season.  In the meantime, we ask that you open your hearts to one of the worlds most unique, beautiful, and inspiring people by donating.
