Each year paramedics, EMT's, and members of the community join together to commemorate and remember the EMS professionals who have given their lives so that others may live. They bike ride for eight days from Boston, MA to to the EMS memorial site in Washington, DC. This year I would like to join them.

Part of the tradition is to wear dog tags of fallen brethren while riding. This year I hope to ride for Anthony Valerio, Lt. Vincent Perez, and Willie Orey. Quinn Boyer already had his tags given out. If anyone knows of other fallen brethren, please let me know so that I can try to bring those tags home.

Well, the ride is over and I'm comfortably writing to you all from my bed at home. 500+ miles from Boston to Washington DC in 1 wk. Apparently I'm the first to have done it on a track bike, woooot wooot!. This was my first time on the East Coast ride, and it was absolutely amazing. When you ride with someone for a week, endure the same physical and mental struggles next to each other, you create a bond. I cant wait to see my Muddy family next year, and hopefully a few will come to the West Coast ride in September.

On Wednesday, we did a century ride which I'd like to dedicate to the memory of Willie Orey and Anthony Valerio. Two local heroes of mine. I'd never done a century ride on a track bike (Much less in the rain). I'm very proud of that ride, and I'd like to share that with them.

Thank you very much to everyone to donated to me, and got me to the East Coast. I believe there's enough money to cover the West Coast ride as well. I highly suggest it for everyone at any riding ability.

Update time! We just wrapped up with day three at roughly 220 miles on our legs. Yesterday was absolutely brutal. 75 miles in the sun with some atrocious climbs. There were a few points where I wasn't sure if I'd make it up the hill, but those ore the points where you put your head down, see the tags of our fallen brethren, and power on through.
Today was pretty good. We had a nice opening ceremony in Waterbury with an awesome police escort. Then another 75 miles of mostly rolling hills. Lots of time to talk shop and get to know EMS professionals from all over the states. Pretty good day.
On the road again

A tradition of the EMS Memorial Bike Ride is to ride with the dog tags of EMS professionals who have passed away. To gain strength from their sacrifice. I was fortunate enough to aquire the tags of my old coworker Willie Orey and Lt Vincent Perez of SFFD, who I also occasionally had the fortune to work with. Over the past several weeks I've been asking for names of other Bay Area and UEMSW brethren who have passed away, and I will be trying my hardest to find the individuals riding with those tags to bring them home as well. Tomorrow is day one, it's suppose to rain but I'm excited none the less.
